Bird-watching trip - Hakalau Forest
I can't belief we are back in London and as usually I am running a bit late with my entries. Fighting jet-lag doesn't really help ... back to the story, When planning our tour to Big Island, I also signed us up for a day tour at Hakalau Forest National Wildlife Refuge with our preferred tour provided on Hawai'i, Hawaii Forest and Trail. It was all about birds and natures and I can assure you that we saw plenty of birds, however there won't be a single bird picture - so if you

Beach life and a visit to the Kula Botanic Garden
I am bit late ... we have arrived at Big Island on Tuesday and since then have done a few things here as well. However, first the last days at Maui were great and we enjoyed the beach as long as possible - on Monday and also on Tuesday Morning the beach was closed because of Shark sighting (and we learnt yesterday that a woman was actually attacked by a Tiger Shark on Kama'ole I). On Monday Morning we went to see some flowers and drove up to Kula to check in at the Botanical

A day with many 'wow's ...
Not so early morning ... around 6am, I put the kettle on to get some coffee under way and 90 minutes later we were on the way with our brand new Ford Escape- circling the Eastern part of the island (by then we didn't actually know that). The Road to Hana is breath-taking. It must have been every time we turned a corner that at least one of us uttered a 'wow, that's amazing, spectacular, beautiful, stunning, awesome, wunderbar', etc. Waterfalls, single ones, doubled up, fallin

An epic sunrise ...
... no comment on the US election. Focusing on nature for now. After a rather chilled day yesterday ... we had a safety-recall for our rental car first thing in the Morning and decided to check out the huge Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Centre on our way back. If you wanted to spend a lot of money while being here, Kahului definitely is the place to be. We then decided on a quick lunch at Cafe O Lei (recommendation to follow) - I think that might have been the best Prawn-Papaya-Sa

First snorkelling trip
Yesterday Morning we had to get up early and being 'very organised' we got up even hours before that - I blame it on the jet lag though. We met at the check-in point of Kai Kanani Sailing and were driven to the beach, we saw the sun rising and nature come to live - it was amazing. Our boat won't board the usual way so we waded through the shallow and warm water on board of the 66 feet catamaran, greeted by a super friendly crew we had a fabulous start. The waters were pretty

Early Morning at Kama'ole Beach
As to be expected, we had a very early morning ... it wasn't even 5am when we enjoyed our first cup of Kona coffee - we managed to even beat the birds this morning ... below is a bit of a concert, I had to add pictures as it was far too dark to take any while the guys woke up It's really nice here, our little condominium is literally just across the street from Kama II (actually Kama'ole II) and it's a lovely sandy beach with a sister in the North - Kama I and another one in
